The Art of Liz Brizzi

I came across these this evening whilst looking for inspiration and couldn't resist sharing them. Beautiful.

Liz Brizzi loves to portray the beauty she captures in the raw, desolate and industrial aspects of cities and their outskirts. Her unique mixed media technique begins with the manipulation of her original photography collaged onto acrylic painted wood panels, finally blended within layers of colorful acrylic washes.

Over the weekend the Mall Gallery exhibition closed and when we went on Saturday to see it, with my mum, Thom, Ruth a family friend and her friend Karen we discovered I had sold a piece of work.
Apparently to a lovely gentlemen who buys something every year!
I'm hoping I will find out who soon so I can thank him personally but he chose the one below!

Lucy Alice Textiles

The world of social media is a great way of sharing information, creativity, ideas and inspiration.

So I would like to share Lucy Alice Textiles with you...

I was lucky enough to learn and work alongside Lucy at University and see her beautiful work develop and become an exciting, unique collection of 'The great outdoors' themed Interior Accessories.

She has been chosen as a New Design Britain finalist at Interiors UK 2012 which is on 22nd-25th January 2012 at NEC Birmingham. http://www.interiorsuk.com/page.cfm/ID=65

Lucy says the wall hooks/decorative wall art, along with her multifunctional furniture, 'create an innovative setting for laminate and hand embroidery, eradicating its mundane stereotypes within the fun, illustrative and colourful product. Bringing embroidery into a functional and contemporary environment while showing the crisp beauty and versatility of laminate.'

Not only does she make interior Accessories but she has since built up an amazing collection of cushions, other wall art animals, brooches, personalised prints and much more, all of which can be seen on her blog!
There's big plans for Lucy this year so keep your eyes peeled for her and her designs, she is without a doubt  one of Britain's new and very exciting young designers....

Homemade London

Yesterday I had my first day on my new placement at Homemade London which is a place where you can 'create the things you love in a beautiful salon in the heart of the West End.'

At Homemade London we specialise in luxurious and indulgent creative experiences – including parties, team building sessions and workshops. We’ve brought together London’s most stylish designers and crafts people, to produce a range of tailoredactivities in which they’ll share their secrets. At the end of every visit to Homemade London, you will have made something you will want to keep forever or give to someone special.

I'm learning from and helping out the lovely owner Nicola Barron and so far I've began to learn the ropes of the business and was lucky to help out at yesterdays Lampshade making workshop which was great fun and the ladies who attended all made the most amazing lampshades! I was very envious and will try and buy a kit to make my own for mine and Thom's house.
Here are a few photos of the evening.

Designer Crafts at the Mall Galleries

As I mentioned in a previous post my work is being exhibited in the Designer Crafts at the Mall Galleries 2012 in association with The Society of Designer Craftsmen. Last week was the preparation of the show and then on Friday night was private view. It was really busy and the whole place was filled with beautiful work and wonderful friends, family, artists, designers and some very talented people.

I am exhibiting a new set of pieces which so far I have had some lovely feedback on, and I was kindly and very unexpectedly awarded the Award of Excellence as a new Merit Licentiate member, along with Nick Wolstencroft  whose functional beautiful metalwork combines traditional craft with modern technology, having made a Pool cue holder and an ipad lectern.
My work is surrounded by some amazing pieces - pictures and details to follow shortly...

The exhibition is on until Sunday 15th January 10am-5pm daily at the Mall Galleries near the Admiralty Arch off of Trafalgar Square. Please come down and check out the wonderful work of the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
